Model sheet

O Vigilante

A villain model sheet built straight out of an interview with the author: a 60/30/10 palette in black, white and red, and a deliberate call to leave the line open — the pencil stays on show.

Colored model sheet of The Vigilante's villain: five views of a blonde character in a white tank top, black shorts and high boots, plus facial expression studies with clown makeup, on a pink and blue background

The project

A model sheet for the villain, with particular attention to the costume and to how the character is presented.

Made for Leony Silva, the author of the story — @leonysilva_11 on Instagram. Drawn in Paint Tool SAI 2. The project started in 2025 and is still running.

The challenge

The job of this piece, and of the model sheets around it, was to get the author's ideas onto the page while holding the visual consistency and the style he was after. The hard part was keeping the character consistent from angle to angle and still interesting to look at.

The process

The whole process ran off an interview with the author. He brought ideas for the colour palette and characters to reference, and sent over notes on the character's build — which is what led to the work below. The method was picked for speed and for keeping costs down: the author chose to skip a lineart pass, that stage where you go over the pencil, clean it up and decide which parts of the drawing to tighten.

On colour, as you can see above, the palette is simple and high-contrast, built on the 60/30/10 rule: black, white and red.

Drag the circle to compare before and after.

Final delivery

In the end we worked over the sketch itself, tightening the linework without turning it into clean lineart. That's what gives it the textured, rougher comic-book feel.

Where it went

The project was made for the author's social media first, so it was delivered as a high-quality JPG.
