Children's Illustration
Picture books, educational material and covers: art that makes the child ask for the next page and the adult take the book to the till.
Who it is for
How this work goes
A children's book has two readers at once, and they want different things. The child wants what happens on the page; the adult paying for it wants finish, consistency, and an object that will survive a hundred readings. The illustration has to answer both.
So the work is not illustrating scene by scene in isolation: it is holding the same character, the same palette and the same light from the first interior page to the last, and still giving the cover the strength it needs to stand alone on a shelf.
I work with independent authors publishing a first title and with publishers running a catalogue. The Valisbinha project, here on the site, shows the whole path, including the six painting stages of a single scene.

What's included
Full service for the publishing market:
Children's and educational illustration
Interior scenes thought through together with the text: what the image shows is what the sentence did not have to say. In educational material, the same logic serves comprehension, not only delight.
Character design
The book's cast defined before the first scene, with proportion and palette locked. It is what guarantees the protagonist on page 4 is the same one on page 30.
Storyboard
The whole book in thumbnails before the final art: how many pages, what goes on each spread, where the page turn works as suspense.
Cover and interior illustration
The cover is the only page that has to work alone, small, and surrounded by others. It is treated as a separate piece, composed to survive both the store thumbnail and the object in your hand.
Page layout
Text and image placed at the same stage, with the printer's margins and safe area already accounted for, so no word falls into the gutter or gets trimmed off.

Valisbinha
The full path of a project in this specialty, from brief to delivery.
Interior illustrations for a children's fantasy book: 90 days, six documented painting stages, and one decision by the author — every scene framed inside a circle — that ended up as the book's visual signature.

How the project moves
A clear process with approvals at every step. You always know where your project stands.
01
Initial conversation
A first conversation over WhatsApp to understand your story, what you want out of it, and to go through your references. This is where we dig into your idea before structuring anything — so that what comes out actually looks like you.
02
Proposal & briefing
Within 48 hours I send a quote drawn up for what you specifically need. Every project is different, so this is where we agree together on how we will work — expectations and next steps, set out for your project rather than a template.
03
Creation
The work happens four hands at a time. You see the sketches and approve each phase before we move on. The revision flow adapts to what your project needs, so you keep control of the result at every step of the way.
04
Final delivery
At the end you get every file organised and in exactly the format you need. No headaches over technical settings: whether it goes straight to the printer, online, or to your animation team, it arrives clean and ready to use.

Thank you, dear. Your work turned out so beautiful ❤️ I'm grateful.
It gives me enormous joy to say that the illustration work on this book, conceived and developed by Daniel Cardoso Mesquita, met my expectations completely — and more than that: his art gave mine more value.
Absolute harmony, thanks to the way he handles the exchange with the author, always working towards what the author is reaching for.
We can write the finest children's book there is, but without illustrations that carry the feelings the author put into the writing, the work would never be complete, or interesting, or beautiful.
My gratitude to Daniel for creating illustrations this lovely. Thank you for your art, and for your patience with my limitations.
You absolutely nailed it!!!!! Flawless work. You caught the whole essence of it, and so professionally ❤️
